What are water accounts?
Water accounts show the transfer of water between natural water resources (e.g. groundwater, rivers and atmosphere), individual economic sectors and private households. They make it easy to see what quantity of water is needed by which economic sector. They can provide a basis for decisions on the allocation of water quantities to economic sectors, especially in arid and semi-arid areas where water is limited.
In Azerbaijan, the competent authorities (the Statistics Committee and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources), have a good understanding of Water Accounts. Data are collected and physical water supply and use tables works are compiled. The tables are not yet published on the website.
The EU4Environment – Water and Data programme supports the further development of water accounts and the use of the knowledge gained from them for water resources management.
